Error while unpacking: Path too long

Postby Calimero » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:51 pm

Good evening,

I love this program.
I used it for a couple of files, but one file returns this message:

"the file path

G:\XXXXXXXXX

5

specified too long you need to change the destination folder
or the album name and reduce the full length by 261 characters
"

I used the XXXXs to show the path name.

I already changed the path to G:\ , but without success
Even changing the file name did not help.

I can see the tracks, but the program returns the message for every single track when trying to unpack it trackwise.

What is wrong with the file or is it the program?
Has anyone a idea or could help?

I use Makeit v3.31. It worked out fine for the other albums.

Hello, I found a solution to my problem:

I used alba extractor 0.4 without having any problem to extract the album and the files run fine.

sorry for the late response.

Because MakeitOne generates a subfolder with the Album name, if your album had a very long album name and very long track names the full path could exceed 260 characters.

You will probably find that alba did not auto generate any folders for you so it unpacked without error. The limitation comes from the Windows path name limits.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure where to change the name to get it unpacked. :?: Any ideas?

You are right, Alba unpacked it without errors and without a folder, which was fine.

I'm afraid MakeitOne has to unpack to a folder, but you can make it length of 1.
- when you load the album in you will notice the Album field is auto generated
- highlight this text and replace the Album name with eg 1 or A
- unpack

Likewise, when you pack an album try not to have a very long album name

I will try, if this solves the problem and post the findings here. :P

Thanks for taking the time!
